TIPS FOR STORING AND ENJOYING FREEZE-DRIED FOOD
Keep it Sealed:

One of the biggest perks of freeze-dried food is its long shelf life, but to keep it fresh and tasty, always ensure it's sealed tight. Once opened, try to consume it relatively quickly or transfer it to an airtight container to maintain that delightful crunch.

Avoid Humidity:

Humidity is the arch-nemesis of freeze-dried foods. Store your freeze-dried foods in a cool, dry place away from moisture.

Rehydration Station:

For rehydrated freeze-dried food, follow the instructions. Use clean, filtered water, and ensure you add the right amount. Too little, and you might end up with something chewy; too much, and you've got soup when you didn't plan for it.

Mix and Match:

Are you feeling adventurous? Mix different freeze-dried fruits for a custom snack mix, or try them in your morning cereal or yogurt for an extra burst of flavor and texture. The world is your freeze-dried oyster!

Taste Test:

Do a taste test before heading out on a big adventure or stocking up for the long haul. Not all freeze-dried foods are created equal, and it's always a good idea to find brands and flavors you genuinely enjoy.

Safety First:

While freeze-drying preserves food, always check for any signs of spoilage or an off smell, especially if the packaging appears compromised.

Get Creative in the Kitchen:

Freeze-dried foods aren't only for snacking or emergencies. They are a fantastic ingredient in your culinary creations, from smoothies to baked goods to gourmet dishes.

Educate and Enjoy:

If you're introducing friends or family to freeze-dried foods, share a bit about the process and its benefits. It's a fun food fact that makes the tasting experience even more enjoyable.

Freeze-Dried foods are healthy

Freeze-dried foods are a healthy food choice. In fact, freeze-drying is one of the most common dehydration methods due to its numerous benefits.

Freeze-drying is one of the best ways to retain the activity of beneficial plant compounds, such as phytochemicals, and nutrients while preserving color, flavor, and structure. That’s why it’s widely used to produce high-value food products.

For instance, studies show that compared with other drying methods, freeze-drying is the most effective at retaining antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, flavonoids, and ascorbic acid or vitamin C.

Antioxidants are beneficial compounds that help fight off the damaging effects of oxidative stress in your body. They’re also the compounds behind most fruit and vegetables’ health benefits.

However, while freeze-drying may sometimes even increase a fruit’s phytochemical concentration, the opposite may also be true, depending on the fruit.

Additionally, given that decreased water activity inhibits the growth of most bacteria, yeasts, and molds, by removing a product’s water content, freeze-drying helps prolong a food’s shelf life.

This is especially important for fresh plant-based foods, which may not be available year-round.

Lastly, removing a product’s water content leads to a reduced volume and weight, making it easier to handle, storage, and transport.
